PTC prosecutor role may go full-timePay of current solicitor doubled after workload complaint By JOHN MUNFORD
Peachtree City may be getting its own full-time city court prosecutor. Thats an option being explored by city staff after the current part-time solicitor asked for and received a temporary pay increase from $4,000 per month to $8,000 per month. In a memo to the City Council, City Manager Bernie McMullen noted that the workload has increased significantly since Sellars signed on with the city. The pay increase was approved unanimously by the city council, but it is due to expire after Sept. 30, by which time the city should know where it is going on the issue. The city had sent out requests for proposals from a number of law firms and attorneys. Local attorney Christy Jindra had proposed doing the work for $7,450 a month plus expenses, which is still a significant amount greater than the normal $4,000 a month Sellars had been getting, McMullen indicated. If the city goes with an in-house solicitor, that attorney would also be able to assist the police department with other matters, McMullen indicated. At last weeks city council budget meeting, it was mentioned that the matter is still being studied by city staff, particularly to determine the salary qualifications for an attorney with experience necessary for the job.
