Newnan
Theatre Company plans Auditions for The Crucible
This October, Newnan Theatre Company (NTC) will present "The
Crucible" by Arthur Miller.
The play is set in one of the darkest periods of American history,
the Salem witch trials. Based on the testimony of a few teenage
girls, the cry of "Witchcraft" brought hundreds of
people to court. Mass hysteria gripped the village with the end
result of 25 people dead and dozens left homeless or imprisoned.
Auditions will be held in two sessions. On August 2, at 7 p.m.,
auditions are set for "The Girls", ages 10-20. Seven
girls will be cast. On August 16 and 17, auditions will be held
for the adult roles, 11 men aged 25-85 (mostly middle-age and
older) and 5 women (middle-age and older). There is one role
specifically set for an African-American female, aged 30-45.
The auditions will be held at NTC, 24 First Avenue in Newnan,
in the Black Box theatre. According to the shows director,
Laurel Alford, auditions will consist of a cold-read of the script.
Prepared audition pieces will be seen, but are not mandatory.
