Robert Goulet is courting audiences this week at the fabulous
Fox Theatre as King Arthur in the classic Tony award winning
musical Camelot. This new production of one of Broadways
best shows will run through Sunday in the first leg of a tour
which then moves on to Kansas City, Memphis, Charlotte and Detroit.
Theatre of the Stars, a civic non-profit cultural organization
now in their 52nd year has assembled a seasoned cast of actors
and actresses to portray the legendary Knights of the Round Table
and their fair maidens.
Things have come full circle for Goulet who originated the role
of Sir Lancelot in the original 1960 production. Having moved
from knight to king, the tale of Arthur resonates anew for the
well-known actor and singer. His credits include over 60 best-selling
albums, numerous television appearances, movies and stage credits
including Carousel, Finians Rainbow, Gentlemen
Prefer Blondes and Man of La Mancha.
The Lerner and Loewe score includes such memorable songs as If
Ever I Should Leave You, What Do Simple Folk Do? How
To Handle a Woman, and of course, Camelot.
The other important figures of Englands most enduring
tale are Guenevere, played by Teri Hansen; Sir Lancelot played
by Nat Chandler; Merlyn the Magician played by James Valentine
and Mordred played by Keith Merrill. The show is directed and
choreographed by Norb Joerher. Performances are scheduled for
Tuesday - Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 8 p.m. and Sunday
at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $20 to $58 and are
