The Frederick Brown, Jr. Amphitheater in Peachtree City is ready
to do it all over again as their second summer series opens Friday
with two nights of The Doobie Brothers.
Formed way back in 1970 as a three piece, the Doobies expanded
their lineup and their sound racking up 16 top 40 hits along
the way. They disbanded in 1982 and reformed after a charity
tour in 1987 led them to Moscow where renewed interest from the
crowd and each other pointed them back to the recording studio.
They have been creating new music at their own pace ever since,
spending two years to complete their 2000 album, Sibling
Rivalry.
Toulouse Street, The Captain and Me, Takin It
to the Streets, and Minute by Minute were all
top-selling records featuring many of the songs that the band
has been known and loved for through their lengthy career. Doobie
classics like China Grove, Black Water, Jesus
is Just Alright, Long Train Running, and Take
Me in Your Arms (Rock Me) demonstrate the variety of musical
expressions encompassed by their sound.
Founding members Tom Johnson, guitar and vocals and Patrick
Simmons, guitar and vocals are joined by fellow Doobs Keith
Knudson, drums and vocals; John McFee, guitars, strings and vocals;
Guy Allison, keyboards, guitars and vocals; Michael Hossack,
drums; Skylark, bass; and Marc Russo on saxophone.
With over 50 million records sold, The Doobie Brothers remain
a permanent part of many peoples music collection and a
friendly, familiar voice to the ears of rock fans everywhere.
Opening for the band will be local favorite, Allen Goodman.
