Arlington cheerleaders prepare for seasonArlington Christian Schools eight-member cheer squad joined over 300 cheerleaders from Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, North Carolina and South Carolina Jun. 27 to Jul. 1 for the Universal Cheerleaders Associations (UCA) cheerleading camp at Edgewater Beach Resort in Panama City, Fla. The squad, coached by Stephanie Alva, learned new cheers, stunts, dances and fan frenzy to build school spirit. They also relaxed with a camp-sponsored pool party and luau with music, and everyone was wearing grass skirts. It was a lot of fun, said Kaely Edwards of Newnan. Senior captain Kelsey Richardson of East Point and sophomore Amber Alva of Palmetto won UCA All-Star titles. They now have the opportunity to cheer in the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City and in Londons New Years Day parade. The squad will perform its new skills at Arlingtons pep rally on the first day of school, Aug. 11. Their season begins in October with the schools first basketball game.
