Fulton summer intern among Ebony Magazines top studentsA Fulton County summer youth jobs program intern is listed among one of Ebony magazines 2004 Top Black High School Seniors. Joshua Brooks, 18, who found his job as a MARTA claims adjuster through the Fulton County Office of Workforce Developments (OWD) Summer Employment Program, is featured in the July issue of Ebony with 35 other honorees from across the U.S. At MARTA, the 2004 graduate of South Atlanta High School is responsible for data entry, locating and determining status of claims, and filing documents. At South Atlanta, the national honor roll student was Student Government Association president, football team captain and received the President Bill Clinton Award of Excellence. Brooks will major in engineering this fall at Alabama A&M University in Normal, Alabama. We are extremely proud that one of our very own program participants has received national recognition, says Burrell Billingslea, OWD director. It confirms what we already knew about this young man, who represents the caliber and quality of young people who find jobs through our Annual Youth Job Fair held each spring, and through walk-ins at one of our offices. Brooks is one of 272 youth, ages 14-21, enrolled in the OWDs summer program at 64 public and private worksites.Ê A division of the Fulton County Human Services Department, the OWD provides employment and training services year round for youth and adults at four career centers in Roswell, College Park and Atlanta.
