Airport nabs efficiency awardInnovative. Productive. Cost-effective. Efficient. These are just some of the terms used to describe Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and the Air Transport Research Society (ATRS) agrees. That is why, for two years in a row, it has awarded the Atlanta Airport the Global Excellence Award for being the most efficient of the top 90 airports in the world. Hartsfield-Jackson is the only airport to receive the acknowledgment acknowledgement twice from the ATRS, a think tank group that focuses on policies, management, and operations related to the airline industry and international aviation. We are the worlds busiest passenger airport, and now we are being recognized for our world-class productivity and efficiency. We have reached these recent milestones because of visionary leadership and committed employees of Atlantas Department of Aviation, said Deputy General Manager of Aviation, Mario Diaz, who accepted the award at the ATRS 2004 Conference held in Istanbul, Turkey on July 2. Additionally, the Air Transport Research Society invited Mr. Diaz to be one of the featured speakers addressing the theme, Current and Evolving Future Economic Roles for Major Airports in the Air Transport Industry. A number of factors were considered by ATRS in determining that Hartsfield-Jackson is the most efficient and productive airport in the world. For one, Hartsfield-Jacksons low cost per enplaned passenger is $2.55, while the current cost at other large hubs averages $8.20. Plus, at $0.45 per 1000 pounds of landing weight for signatory air carriers, Hartsfield-Jackson offers the lowest landing fees of all major U.S. airports. To continue its productivity and efficiency, Hartsfield-Jackson is expanding to accommodate the almost 88 million passengers expected to travel through the Airport in 2005. That is 3 million more passengers than are expected by the end of this year. For up-to-date information on Hartsfield-Jacksons current initiatives to be more efficient, visit www.atlanta-airport.com.
