Glenn, Westmoreland headed for runoffBy JOHN THOMPSON
Im thrilled to be in this position. I think it shows our message is connecting with voters. That was Dylan Glenns assessment of Tuesday nights election that left Glenn and Westmoreland headed for a runoff Aug. 10 to see who would be the Republican nominee as the next Congressman from the Eighth District. When all the votes had been tallied Sharpsburgs Lynn Westmoreland led the four-person field with 42,815 votes to Glenns 35,098. I was very pleased with how we did in Peachtree City. I guess I owe my mom for that, said Glenn. His mom resides in the golf cart city. With less than three weeks to go before the runoff, both sides are looking to make sure their voters return to the polls during the dog days of summer. On Wednesday, Westmoreland received the endorsement of a sitting Georgia congressman, Charlie Norwood. Im pleased to lend my strong support to Lynn Westmoreland in Georgias 8th Congressional District Republican Primary, stated Norwood. Lynn has shown time and again, he has the conservative credentials, experience, and know-how to get things. The good folks of the 8th District deserve a strong voice in Washington to represent them and carry Georgias commonsense and conservative values to Capitol Hill Ð Lynn Westmoreland will do just that. Lynn Westmoreland is a proven leader and will hit the ground running in Congress. Again, Im proud to offer Lynn my strong support in his campaign for Congress. Wednesdays endorsement was Westmorelands latest in a string of endorsements by Georgias politicians. He has received the support of U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, five of the seven state Senators from the 8th District and all 13 state representatives from the 8th District. But Glenn feels his campaign is on the right road for victory in August. A lot of people thought Lynn would wind this hands down with all his endorsements. But we just plan to keep putting out our positive message which garnered us 35,000 votes Tuesday, he said.
