In recent times the word rodeo has been used to
include all kinds of things which have no relation to its original
Old West meaning of riding bunking broncos and roping steers.
For instance for some years now, Jay Stalling has been having
a Fishing Rodeo at his Welcome Farms lake.
Now the Grantville Better Home Town has announced that it will
be co-sponsoring a Kids Summer Bike Rodeo, which
will be held from 10 a.m. thru 2 p.m. July 31 in the Grantville
Industrial Park, which is the parking lot for the building which
now houses Textbook Recycling and which formerly housed the Rainbow
Plastics company, and originally the Mill.
This Bike Rodeo will combine fun things such as driving thru
an obstacle course with bike safety lessons given by the Grantville
Police Department. Grantville Police Chief Jerry Ramos believes
this is an appropriate time for these safety lessons because
it is anticipated that there will be many Grantville children
driving their bikes to school after the new Grantville Elementary
School opens. Chief Ramos therefore encourages Grantville parents
to bring their children to the Bike Rodeo for this safety program
and for the fun bike things there. All children participating
will be given a free bicycle helmet and refreshments. Further
information on the Bike Rodeo can be obtained from Chief Ramos
at 770-583-2266
In addition to the Grantville Better Home Town organization
and the Grantville Police Department, the other co-sponsors of
this Bike Rodeo are the Newnan Police Department, Safe Kids of
Georgia, the South Coweta Optimists, Fire Mountain Grill & Buffet,
Quick As A Wink Printing, and Buffalo Rock.
