Sams school receives grantThe Joseph Sams School has received a $500,000 grant from The Goizueta Foundation. The foundation Scholars Fund will enhance the immediate needs based tuition for students at the Sams School. Lana Carr, executive director of the school, said the grant will allow it to retain a consulting firm to facilitate planning and conduct a fund-raising feasibility study. The Joseph Sams School, previously known as The Early Years, was started in 1984 by a group of parents seeking preschool intervention for their young children with disabilities. Today it is the only privately operated, nonprofit, fully accredited school of its kind. It provides educational and therapeutic services to children in the south metropolitan Atlanta area and services children from age 2 to 15. The Goizueta Foundation was established in 1992 and provides financial assistance to educational and charitable institutions. Its primary focus is to assist organizations that empower individuals and families at risk through educational opportunities to improve their quality of life. The Joseph Sams School is located at 280 Brandywine Boulevard in Fayetteville and can be reached at 770-461-5894.
