Board signs on DeCotis for another three yearsDr. John DeCotis will head up the Fayette County School System for at least another three years. On Monday night, the Fayette County Board of Education renewed the superintendents contract for another three years. The contract starts July 1 and ends June 30,2008. In a press release, board chairman Terri Smith summed up the boards feelings about the superintendent. Dr. DeCotis is arguably the best superintendent in the state and we are lucky to have him overseeing our school system, she said. DeCotis salary is $141,587 annually. School officials said the salary is 3.3 percent under the rate of pay of superintendents in adjoining counties, including Coweta, Clayton and Henry. DeCotis became superintendent in 1999 after working more than 20 years in the local system.
