Traffic improvements part of agreement for south Fayetteville annexationBy JOHN MUNFORD
The City of Fayetteville will require traffic improvements to Redwine Road to counteract the affect of a 88-home subdivision that will be built at its intersection with Old Senoia Road. The traffic improvements are written into the development agreement proposed for the annexation of the 98.38-acre tract for the Bellemeade subdivision. The agreement was discussed at Thursday nights City Council meeting; it has not yet been approved. The first traffic improvement will be installing a three-way stop at the second entrance to the Lakemont subdivision. Residents there have complained it is difficult to turn onto Redwine to go north because of school traffic in the mornings. The city will also have 24 months after it accepts the streets and roads of the subdivision to require the developer to install other traffic improvements, including: ä Acceleration and deceleration lanes anywhere in the Redwine corridor abutting the Bellemeade property; ä Installing a traffic light at any intersection in the Redwine corridor abutting the Bellemeade property; ä Installing more stop signs at intersections along Redwine or improving public road signage along the corridor. If the city requires any or all of those traffic improvements, the developer will have 12 months to complete them once notified in writing, according to the agreement. The subdivision will include 36.5 acres of open space and a half-mile paved jogging trail.
