Close finishes at Senoia Speedway

In the Georgia Asphalt Series (G. A. S.) 100-lap feature at Senoia Speedway last week, Fredrick Moore recorded a 14.312 to post the fastest qualifying lap then rolled a three on the dice which placed him in the third starting position.ÊThis advanced Bubba Pollard to the pole position with Roger Delp starting along side Pollard on the outside of the front row of the impressive 20 car field. When the green flag waved, Pollard jump out front with Moore, Delp and Ronnie Sanders in close pursuit.Ê

The top running order would remain the same until lap 22 when Moore was able to slip past Pollard and take over the lead.Ê Moore would continue to show the way as the machines further back in the field battled door-to door for position. Caution was displayed on lap 53 when Micky Thomas experienced mechanical problems and came to rest in turn four. The running order for the restart was: Moore, Pollard, Sanders and Ronny Kittle. Moore would continue to show the way when on lap 85, Kittle was able to make the pass on Pollard and take over the third place position.Ê

The running order would remain the same for the top positions with Rusty Clanton battling his way into the fifth place position with Moore taking the checkered flag.ÊÊ

In the 15-lap Bandolero feature, Bre Sharp recorded her first career win following a series of consistent top five finishes.ÊDarrell Banks led the first laps of the event with Vince Ponder taking over the lead on lap 5 while Sharp occupied the third place position. On both lap's eight and nine, caution was displayed because of mechanical problems which forced two machines out of competition.

Back under green, Sharp made the pass for the second place position on lap 12, then closed in on Ponder's machine.ÊAs the savvy Ponder raced out of turn four headed for the start-finish line, Sharp dove to the inside and took the checkered flag, winning the event in a near photo finish.

In the 25-lap Legends Cars feature, Chris Delbeck led the first lap of the event with Andy James taking over the top spot on the second lap and Tony Yawn, Jr., advancing into the second place position.

With James showing the way, caution was displayed on lap 5 when Doc Lee experienced mechanical problems as he entered turn three with Vigil Brown being caught-up in the incident. Both machines were retired for the evening. When racing resumed, James continued to lead the event and took the checkered flag, followed by: Yawn, Jr., Delbeck, Casey Tate and Aaron Brooks.

In the Sportsman 30-lap feature, the fans were not disappointed by the close door-to-door racing this division has been experiencing on a weekly basis. Jody Cash, following a hard crash several weeks ago returned last week and entered the only Dodge competing in this division back into contention.ÊOn this occasion, he would serve notice of his return.

With Andy Cash clearly the race leader, Jody Cash (no relation), worked his way up through the field and took over the second place position on lap 20.ÊWith five laps remaining, the two drivers battled door-to-door with Jody Cash on the inside and Andy Cash taking the high line.

Contact was made between the two machines several times which cause damage to Andy Cash’s drivers door, and the right front of Jody Cash's machine. As the two drivers blasted out of turn four for the start-finish line, it was Andy Cash taking the win, followed by: Jody Cash, Larry Pierce, Jr., Paul Benefield and Terry Medley.

Andy Cash and Jody Cash were please with the performance of their machines following the event, and each driver acknowledged the superb driving skills and sportsmanship of the other. Also enjoying a good consistent race was, Larry Pierce, Jr., Paul Benefield and Terry Medley.

In the Larry’s New & Used Tires Modified Street Stock 25-lap feature, Larry Pierce, Sr., led the first twenty laps of the event while Steve Barker worked his way up through the field.ÊBarker made the pass for the lead and would lead the remaining laps of the event. Barker was followed across the start-finish line by: Pierce, Sr., David Seaman, George Pierce, Jr., and Eddie Jones.

In the Aaron’s Pro Challenge 15 lap feature, Rusty McClain would lead the first eight laps of the event with Britt McClain finally taking over the top spot. On lap 12 of the event, Kyle Mitchell would slip past Rusty McClain and take over the second place position. The running order would remain the same the final laps with Britt McClain taking the win.Ê
