Airport to get hotel-motel tax payments againRetreat scheduled for Aug. 5-6 By JOHN MUNFORD
With a unanimous vote Wednesday night, the Peachtree City Airport Authority agreed to sign the hotel-motel tax agreement with the citys tourism association. That paves the way for the airport to begin receiving hotel-motel tax funds again. The funds, estimated to be roughly $10,000 a month, have been withheld since November after City Attorney Ted Meeker determined there were problems with how the hotel-motel funds were distributed. The tourism association can handle that task because it has been approved as a nonprofit entity, officials said. The Airport Authority traditionally has used the hotel-motel tax funds for capital projects but has been unable to do so since the payments stopped in November. The payments have been held in the city coffers since November. Airport Manager John Crosby said Thursday that the funds should be available to the airport in a day or two. The authority has not yet determined what capital projects it will pursue, but that is a topic the authority will likely broach at its upcoming retreat, Crosby said. The retreat will be at the Wyndham Peachtree Executive Conference Center Friday, Aug. 6 from 3-7 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 7 from 8 a.m.-noon.
