On Thursday, July 15 at 7 p.m. Southern Conservation Trust
is hosting a Nature Discovery Program at the Flat Creek Nature
Center in Peachtree City. Dennis Chase, a freshwater biologist
formerly with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, will be the guide
for a Wetland Walk on the Flat Creek Boardwalk. Visitors will
learn about the characteristics and functions of wetlands and
the unique plants and creatures that inhabit this forested
wetland preserve.
The July 15 Wetland Walk is one of a series of Nature Discovery
programs for families hosted by Southern Conservation Trust
at the Flat Creek Nature Center throughout 2004. Recent program
topics have featured live snakes and local geology. On August
19 a wildlife specialist with the Charlie Elliott Wildlife
Center will bring several species of reptiles.
Southern Conservation Trust is a nonprofit land trust based
in Peachtree City that owns and manages over 600 acres of nature
preserves in Fayette County. SCT also works with willing landowners
to protect scenic open space through legal tools that may provide
tax benefits s for the property owner.
The Wetland Tour will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 15
in the area behind the Flat Creek Nature Center building, next
to the Frederick Brown amphitheatre at 201 McIntosh Trail in
Peachtree City. The program is free and appropriate for all
ages.
