Nearly 35 percent turnout expected for primary electionBy JOHN THOMPSON
The advance voting seems to be a hit among Fayette voters. Early Monday afternoon, officials at the Fayette County Board of Elections said that more than 130 people came into the office for advance voting and absentee voting. For the first time, residents can show up at the elections office this week and get their primary elections voting done before next Tuesdays election. Elections chief Carolyn Combs said she believes between 30-35 percent of Fayettes 56,666 registered voters will cast ballots in the July primary. Thats about the average from past July elections, Combs said. She added that there is one precinct change for this election only. Voters in Precinct 13 will vote at Whitewater Middle School next Tuesday, but will go back to their normal voting spot of Heritage Christian Church in Novembers election. Residents will choose two county commissioners, one Fayette County Board of Education member, along with a new state court prosecutor, called a solicitor-general, and district attorney. Polls will be open next Tuesday from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
