Fville crime stats available onlineBy JOHN MUNFORD
Fayetteville residents can now hop online to check out general crime statistics provided by the police department. The department provides two yearly reports online: one on Part I crimes such as arson, forcible rape, homicide, robbery and motor vehicle theft; and one on Part II crimes, which are less serious offenses such as vandalism, family violence, disorderly conduct and DUI. Additionally, monthly crime statistics are also available online for download in Adobe PDF format. The department has been compiling this information for quite some time, but until recently there wasnt a way to present it to the public, said Lt. Beverly Trainor of the Fayetteville Police Department. The reports are available at the citys Web site: www.fayetteville-ga.gov. To locate the reports, click on city departments on the left hand side of the home page, then click on public safety, then police department, then crime statistics. Trainor also handles requests from individual citizens who are concerned about what crime is going on in their subdivision. With a little time and the street names in hand, Trainor can pull up reports to satisfy those curiosities, she said. We do get a lot of requests for that, Trainor said. Between its in-car computers and other technology, the police department has the largest number of computers in use of all city departments, Trainor noted. The department has its own systems specialist to handle the computers, and the citys computer specialist can also be used when necessary, she said.
