Pioneers do well at Meet of ChampionsBy MICHAEL BOYLAN
The SouthSide Pioneers Track and Field Club competed at the Meet of Champions meet at Marietta High School last weekend. The results were as follows: Gold Medalists: 4x100M Relay (Bantam Girls): Haley Miller, Kierra Rountree, Courtney Penn, Dara Carter - 1:11.29 4x200M Relay (Young Women): Khaneisha Pagan, Kristin Olson, Jodi Harris, Elizabeth Hale - 1:51.55 High Jump (Midget Boys): Graylin Ward, 1.25m 3000M Run (Youth Boys): Jonathan Garrett, 11:21.51 Silver Medalists: 800M (SubBantam Girls/Midget Boys): Shauna Garrett, 3:46.40; Baylen Garrett, 2:37.87 3000M Run (Intermediate Girls): Lacey Garrett, 13:30.26 400M Hurdles (Young Women): Kristin Olson, 1:07.34 4x100M Relay (Young Women): Elizabeth Hale, Kristin Olson, Khaneisha Pagan, Jodi Harris - 52.10 1,500M Run (Midget/Youth Boys): Baylen Garrett, 5:30.72; Jonathan Garrett, 5:00.44 Bronze Medalists: 400M (SubBantam Girls): Liz Pagan, 1:23.31 800M (SubBantam/Intermediate Girls/Youth Boys): Miyah McKnight,3:56.02; Lacey Garrett, 2:42.30; Jonathan Garrett, 2:17.07 Long Jump (SubBantam Girls): Liz Pagan, 802 100M (Bantam Girls): Haley Miller, 14.95 100MH (Young Women): Khaneisha Pagan, 16.24 High Jump (Young Women): Elizabeth Hale, 1.5m 1,500M Run (Intermediate Boys): Andrew Breest; 5:07.55 Other Contenders: 100M: Kendra Abram, Brandy Williams, Mikayla McKnight, Bryana Higgins, Braxtin Ward, Che Judon, Lee Hardnett 100MH: Maria Iampietro, Esi Atinkah, Sophia Danner-Okotie 200M/400M: Brentley Collins, David Mathis 100M/200M: Lee Hardnett 400M James Mathis The SouthSide Pioneers will compete this coming weekend in the 2004 Junior Olympics Regional Championships at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C., and then again at the 2004 Georgia Games, July 16-17, at Panthersville Stadium in Decatur. The team will end its season in Des Moines, Iowa as competitors at the 2004 AAU National Track and Field Championships July 31-Aug. 7. The Pioneers have recently welcomed Coach Mitch Sargent onto its staff. Sargent, a Starrs Mill High School grad, attends Colgate University and assists the athletes in training for high jump competition.
