Students take parade to Christian CityRain, rain, go away, come back another day, so we can go outside for our parade, is what the students at International Learning Academy were singing to make the rain stop on Wednesday June 30 just an hour before their parade was to begin. The students at International Learning Academy located in Fairburn saw a real live miracle happen when the rain stopped just long enough for their parade and luncheon to take place. The parade delighted and entertained many people that came to watch. The parade traveled down Lester Road in Fairburn to Christian City. The senior citizens gathered along the roadside where nice comfortable chairs were set out to take in the sights. No one has ever thought of putting together a parade for our residents commented one of the on lookers from Christian City. Bruce Erickson, Vice President for Christian City was supportive of the event since there had never been anyone who wanted to do something like this for their community. After the parade the students from The International learning Academy and Tony Youngs Karate School walked the halls of the nursing home singing and dancing to the music of Rudy Penn, a Caribbean steel drummer. The music warmed the heart and electrified the senses of residents as they were so excited to have so many faces visit and wish them well. As the students wished them a Happy Fourth of July they put a patriotic lei around their neck. The reason for hosting the parade was because many of the residents cant go out to watch the parade in person, so the students wanted to bring the parade to their back door. For the first parade it was a big hit with our two Grand Marshals, Union City Mayor Ralph Moore, and the Union City Police, Chief Mike Isome. The honorary grand marshal was Aston Peart who is the co-owner of International Learning Academy. He was the person who originally suggested having the parade at Christian City. After introducing the idea of a 4th of July parade to Christian City it was a go. Parade organizer Monica Peart touched basis with David Quick of Bill Heard Chevrolet and he generously donated the use of many vehicles and Todd Morgan at Chick-fil-a donated lunch for the participants. Just minutes before the parade began lining up, the sun came out and it was the hot summer day that the kids and supporters had prayed for. All systems were a go when the parade headed down Lester Road. Traffic was haulted as the parade proceeded down Lester Road. The people gazed at the fabulous cars & trucks loaned to us by Bill Heard Chevrolet, Hummer & Kia of Union City and Heritage Volkswagen. The parade was sponsored by the International Learning Academy for the Christian City community. This is the type of event the school wants to sponsor annually If anyone is interested in participating in the parade next year please contact Monica Peart International Learning Academy at 770-306-1234.
