Tourism Assn. budget ball gets rollingBy MICHAEL BOYLAN The Peachtree City Tourism Association met Wednesday evening but ended up tabling many of the items on their agenda. Decisions on hiring a full-time desk person for the tennis center, sponsorship of the Peachtree PathFinder Guide and a court sponsorship agreement between the tennis center and Velocity Sports Performance were all put off until the next meeting, scheduled for July 21. The association members then got a look at the proposed budget calendar. If all goes well, they will have a budget ready for the City Councils approval Sept. 2. Chairman Steve Rapson asked that the association members consider having something in the budget to underwrite a lease space for a dinner theatre type venue. The city is missing cultural art types of events, said Rapson, who mentioned working with area theater groups such as the Endowment Committee for the Cultural Arts and Fayette Community Theatre to put on shows in such a venue. It doesnt have to be anything complicated. It could be extremely simple. I would just like it to be considered in the budget process this year. Taking that first step is enough. Board member Murray Weed agreed with Rapson, adding, Its a type of venue that we dont have that we need. Board member Bernie McMullen added a caveat, stating that he just wanted to make sure such a venue would be in use enough to justify it. A dinner theater is just one of the things that will be looked at as the budget process gets underway. The next meeting of the Peachtree City Tourism Association will be Wednesday, July 21, at 6 p.m. at the Peachtree City Tennis Center.
