Suspect in July 4 Fville robbery caught by Clayton policeBy JOHN MUNFORD
A Hampton man has been arrested for the robbery of the Fayetteville Dollar General store at lunchtime July 4. Jeffrey Martin Matuszak, 44, was identified as the suspect as he was detained by Clayton County police in connection with a similar robbery, police said. The perpetrator wore a baseball cap and sunglasses as a disguise during the Dollar Store robbery, said Lt. Beverly Trainor of the Fayetteville Police Department. He handed a note to the clerk indicating he had a gun, and then demanded money from the cash register, police said. If the perpetrator had a gun, it was never shown during the incident, Trainor said. The clerk was not injured, police said. The suspect, who fled in a white convertible, left with just over 4100 in cash, police said. Matuszak was identified as a suspect in several store robberies that have occurred in Fayetteville, Griffin, Jonesboro and Lovejoy, police said.
