Suspect in 2 Fayetteville carjackings apprehendedBy JOHN MUNFORD
A Columbus man has been arrested in connection with two carjacking incidents in Fayetteville: one that occurred in May and another from November, police said. Mark Ringer, 38, was arrested after a Georgia Department of Transportation police officer located the car stolen in May on her Lojack tracking system, police said. Ringer has been charged with two felony counts of theft by taking (motor vehicle) by Det. Scott Gibson of the Fayetteville Police Department. The DOT police officer who spotted Ringer in the stolen vehicle gave chase and arrested a passenger who fled the vehicle on foot while it was still moving, police said. Atlanta Police Department officers maintained the pursuit of the vehicle on Interstate 285, and Ringer attempted to strike two police cars during the chase, police said. The pursuit ended after Ringer struck another car on the interstate. Stemming from the pursuit, Ringer was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of obstruction of a police officer, aggressive driving, attempting to elude a police officer and driving with a suspended license.
