Coweta readies for the fireworksBy JOHN THOMPSON Thousands of Coweta County residents are expected to converge on Newnan and Moreland tomorrow to celebrate Americas birthday. In Newnan, the annual July 4 parade is slated to kick off at 6 p.m. and will wind its way through the citys historic streets until it ends at Newnan High School on LaGrange Street. The Newnan Rotary Club will again cap off Independence Day for Coweta families with its annual fireworks and entertainment celebration at Newnan High School's Drake Stadium. Admission to the fireworks show show is free. In addition to spectacular pyrotechnics, the patriotic program will feature live music and family entertainment, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Sponsors for this years program include Coweta County, the city of Newnan, local businesses, and the Rotary Club of Newnan produces the 20-year tradition. Celebrate Freedom 2004 chairman James Welden says this year's program will feature a variety of family activities, including clowns, bounce houses and $1 refreshments, and live music by The Patriots. "The event and the attendance keeps getting bigger every year," said Welden. "This year is no exception. It will be a spectacular show, and the evening is again going to be one of the best, most affordable and family-friendly Independence Day celebrations in Georgia. It's a great time for all of us in Coweta County to come together and celebrate our country's freedoms." In Moreland, residents will start congregating early to enjoy one of the countys oldest tradition. The barbecue lunch starts at 11 a.m. at the Lewis Grizzard Pavilion behind the Moreland Mill. Several churches will be serving plates of barbecue and Brunswick stew for $7 a plate.
