The SouthSide Pioneers Track & Field Club have produced three new state
champions once again. Last weekend, the team competed against the top youth
athletes in the state and qualified for the USATF Region 3 Championship Meet
to be held July 8-11 in Columbia, S.C. These athletes will go on to compete
against the best athletes in the states of Virginia, North Carolina, South
Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee.
The teams three new state champions
are:
Elizabeth Hale (Young Women, high jump).
Mauri Peoples (Youth Girls, pole vault).
William Simmons (Youth Boys, discus).
Silver medalists were:
Danny Giglio (Young Men, pole vault).
Graylin Ward (Midget Boys, high jump).
Canesha Edwards (Youth Girls, long jump).
Jake Lethbridge (Youth Boys, 1500m & 800m).
Quinta Starr (Young Men, long jump).
Youth Boys 4x800m relay (Jonathan Garrett, David Mathis, Jake Lethbridge,
Matt Lethbridge).
Young Men 4x800m relay (Matt Auers, Daniel Shankle, Zach Lethbridge,
Steven Morrison).
In other competitions where the top five competitors advanced to the Region
Championship in South Carolina, the SubBantam Girls 4x100m Relay of Kendra
Abram, Courtney, Penn, Jasmine Jones, and Breyana Nelson took fourth place,
1:13.18; the Youth Girls 4x100m relay team of Jada Berry, Canesha Edwards,
Mauri Peoples, and Michelle Stegall took fourth place, 52.69; Alexis Blackburn,
Intermediate Girls 1,500m took fourth place, 5:36.46; Austin Enriquez, Intermediate
Boys 1500M took fourth place, 4:20.13; Joy Ferrell, Youth Girls 200m hurdles,
took fourth place, 30.86; Andrew Harlfinger, Intermediate Boys discus throw,
took fourth place, 23.80m; William Simmons, Youth Boys shot put, took fourth
place 10.17m; Matt Lethbridge, Youth Boys 1,500m, took fifth place 4:52.20;
Quentin Penn, Midget Boys 1,500m, 5:16.56 and 800m, 2:36.83 took fifth place;
Mauri Peoples took fifth place in the Youth Girls 100m hurdles, 18.01, and
Josh White took fifth place in the Young Mens 110m hurdles with a 15.51.
