Fulton County formulating plan to better inform citizens of proposed rezoning and land use applicationsPolicy targets persons living in environmentally stressed areas Fulton Countys unincorporated residents who live where air, water and noise are pollutants will soon be better notified of proposed land use rezonings in their area and any related meetings. During the Board of Commissioners June 16 meeting, the board fully supported District 5 Commissioner Emma I. Darnells resolution to improve communications with members of the public regarding proposed rezoning and use-permit applications in environmentally stressed communities. Too often, citizens living in environmentally stressed communities come before the Boards zoning meetings and complain of having little or no notice of rezoning matters in their neighborhoods, said Commissioner Darnell. We must do a better job of letting residents know of possible changes in zonings that could affect their lives. The approved measure directs the County Manager and the Department of Environment and Community Development to prepare appropriate changes to the County Zoning Resolution regarding public notifications. The resolution further requires the proposed amendments come back to the Board no later than August 4, 2004.
