Local businessmen receive Scouting honorLocal businessmen and long-time Coweta and Fayette County residents Glen Roberts Sr. and Wally Wallace recently received the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service to youth of the Flint River Council, Boy Scouts of America at its annual awards banquet in Peachtree City. In an organization whose leadership is overwhelmingly volunteer, Glen and Wally exemplify all that is good in Scouting, said scout executive George McGovern. We feel fortunate that they have dedicated many years of their lives to helping the youth of Coweta and Fayette counties. Established in 1931, The Silver Beaver Award is presented annually to adults who generously dedicate their time and resources for the benefit of youth. This award, Scoutings highest local commendation for service to youth, recognizes the invaluable contributions American men and women have made to our nations young people. The Silver Beaver awards means so much to me on many different levels, said Roberts. But knowing that I have been able to motivate and influence generations of young people to live up to their potential has truly been a reward in itself. Wallace concurred. Time is one of the greatest gifts for todays youth and I strongly encourage anyone looking to make an impact to become a Scout volunteer. The Boy Scouts of America are supported by 1.3 million volunteers working together for the sole purpose of helping its 5 million youth members succeed in life. The organizations 92-year history is a testament to the enduring values of the Scouting program.
