PTC raises businesses taxWill raise additional $42K for city budget By JOHN MUNFORD Some Peachtree City businesses will have to pay more in city taxes for the coming fiscal year. The city will now charge $17.50 per employee with an additional $20 administrative fee. The minimum payment will remain at $100, so the hike will not affect businesses with four or less employees, which make up 73 percent of the citys businesses said City Administrative Director Jane Miller. The increase, enacted by a unanimous vote of the city council Monday night, also hikes the maximum payment from $3,075 to $5,000. It has been three years since the city has increased its occupational tax on businesses, Miller noted. The increase is estimated to generate an additional $42,610 based on the current businesses in the city, officials said. Councilwoman Judi-ann Rutherford said she wants council to look at the types of businesses exempted from the ordinance to see if they should have to pay the tax. One example brought up at Mondays meeting was for self-employed persons who perform day and domestic work or services conducted in connection with or for occupants or residents of the city. The city also exempts the following persons from its occupational tax: Persons deemed to be engaged in business solely by reason of being engaged as a farmer in the production of crops, livestock or other farm products within the city. Persons engaged in recreational activities sponsored by the parks and recreation department of the city. Those businesses regulated by the state public service commission. Those electrical service businesses organized under O.C.G.A. 46-3-170 et. seq.
