Council adjusts July meeting scheduleBy JOHN THOMPSON Senoia residents will only have one chance to speak their mind next month. Because July 4 falls on a Sunday this year, city workers will have July 5 off to enjoy the holiday. At Mondays City Council meeting, the council also decided to cancel the meeting scheduled for July 5, and instead just meet once during July. The only July meeting will now be July 12 at 7 p.m. In other news from Mondays meeting, the council voted to spend nearly $5,000 for a stormwater management problem on Broad Street near the post office. City administrator Murray McAffee said he got an estimate from Foley Products for $4,813 in materials to fix the site. McAffee added that city workers would do the labor. But Councilman Robert Belisle said he believed the city should not bear the cost, since a commercial development near the site should be responsible for fixing the problem. But Mayor Robert Hannah said the problem had existed for years, and said there was Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax money available to pay for the project. The council voted 3-1 to pay for the project, as long as it did not exceed McAffees estimate by more than 10 percent. Belisle opposed the motion.
