Council nixes annexationBy JOHN THOMPSON The Senoia City Council called a halt to a denser development on Rockaway Road Monday night. The City Council unanimously turned down an annexation request from developer Donovan Gossett, who wanted 15 acres annexed into the city. Gossett told the councilmembers that he could build seven homes on the tract in the county, but wanted to build at least nine homes. He said the homes would be at least $250,000 and 3,000 sq.ft. Councilman Bill Wood asked Gossett if he would commit to developing a maximum of nine homes on the site, but Gossett could not offer the City Council a firm commitment. During the public hearing portion of the meeting, Judy Belisle wanted to know exactly how many homes could be built on the site under city regulations. She was told 13 homes could be placed on the site, if it is connected to the citys sewer system. Other residents spoke against the annexation because of traffic concerns on the already busy road. But Sgt. Jason Edens of the Senoia Police Department said once TDK Boulevard is completed, some of the traffic on Rockaway Road should decline. He said if the property was developed in the county, the Senoia Police Department would probably be called by the county to respond to problems since it was so close to the city. After further discussion, the council turned down the request and said Gossett was free to develop the property under county standards, which would yield seven homes.
