Mix one part fantasy, one part cautionary tale, and one part
hard luck story. Add 28 kids between 7 and 17, workshop for
two to three months, advertise and serve. Its a sure
recipe for success and a sweet treat for fans of Roald Dahl.
The Newnan Community Theatre Company invites you to join Charlie
Bucket, Grandpa Joe, Veruca Salt, Augustus Gloop, Mike TV,
Violet Beauregard, on a tour of the strangest factory this
side of the rainbow. Willy Wonka, a name known to all children,
gives the golden ticket winners their just desserts as he leads
them through a maze of secret projects and unusual inventions.
Roald Dahls ability to entertain with imaginative characters
and unlikely occurrences combined with clever satirical observations
about people of all sizes have made him a popular choice in
young libraries the world over. James and the Giant Peach and The
Witches have found their way to the big screen along
with the cult classic, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate
Factory starring Gene Wilder.
The all-kids production is a group effort
between NCTC mainstays, Lamar Payne, Kelly Whisenhunt, Jennifer
Dorrell and her husband Dave Dorrell. Wanting to give young thespians
in the area a chance to show their stuff, the NCTC decided to put
together a vehicle in April which would allow for plenty of fun
and adventure for its cast and crew.
Cameron Loviska, the youngest cast member at age 7, plays one
of the Oompa Loompas, a mysterious race of people who help Mr.
Wonka create fantastic candy treats. The strange little characters
that inhabit the factory pepper the play with their perceptive
poetry.
