PTC amphitheater director removed by Tourism AssociationBy JOHN MUNFORD
Lisa Waslis is no longer employed as the director of the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater in Peachtree City. The citys Tourism Association met Wednesday night in executive (closed) session and later voted to end her employment with the amphitheater, according to association chairman Steve Rapson. The association decided to give Waslis the chance to resign, which she has 21 days to consider, according to Georgia law, Rapson said. Rapson said the association wouldnt comment further on Waslis departure because it was a personnel matter. Waslis has served as the amphitheaters interim director. She replaced Donna Romeo, who was fired by the Tourism Association in January. The removal of Waslis from her position comes just before the last concert of the amphitheaters first series, with performer Paul Anka slated to appear Friday and Saturday night. The association has received a high number of applications for the position of executive director, Rapson noted. The executive director would oversee both the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater and the Peachtree City Tennis Center in addition to managing the marketing arm of the Tourism Association, Rapson said. The amphitheater and tennis center were formerly managed by the Development Authority of Peachtree City. But the City Council terminated that contract last year and created the Tourism Association to run the venues, which are subsidized with funds from the citys hotel-motel tax revenues.
