The Fairburn police department is, once again without a police chief.
Police Chief Frederick Brown stepped down Wednesday morning in what City
Administrator Jim Williams characterized as a mutual decision.
Williams said it was agreed that things were not working out on either
side of the equation and the best solution was to keep things friendly
and both parties go their separate ways. It was not known exactly what
Brown will do except that he mentioned having something lined up.
Walt Brown, the Director of Public Safety, will act as administrative
supervisor for the time being. We are going to take our time looking
for a replacement, Williams said, pointing out that someone from
the police department would probably be moved into the chiefs position
temporarily before a permanent replacement is decided upon.
Sometimes these things work out for the best. Williams added.
Chief Brown had been on probation after a series of internal personnel
problems disrupted the affairs of the Fairburn Police Department. His
departure follows on the heels of Major Daniel Crawfords resignation
on March 10 of this year. Crawford was brought to Fairburn by Brown to
oversee the uniformed police unit. After an internal investigation conducted
by Major Crawford concerning allegations of harassment, a similar decision
was made to part company with Crawford.
