Coweta County officials are still trying to determine the best way
to handle soil disturbance permits.
Coweta County administrator Theron Gay said this week that he has
scheduled meetings with department heads to try and determine if the
state or county should handle the permitting process.
Currently, there is a $40-an-acre fee charged for any land disturbance
in the county. State officials want Coweta to tack another $40 on the
fee, but Gay said that could be problematic.
We wouldnt see any of the money, and it would require
us to get more people to help with the permitting process, he
said.
Gay has already had several meetings with his staff on the issue,
but said a solution hasnt been reached.
With all the growth occurring in the county, total fees are in the
thousands of dollars, and Gay is trying to determine the best approach
for collecting the fees and handling the permits.
We hope to reach a decision soon, and forward a recommendation
to the Board of Commissioners, he said.
