A Wednesday afternoon collision between a concrete truck and a semi-truck
sent both drivers to the hospital, but both escaped without serious
injuries.
County and state officials worked for hours unsnarling
traffic after Wednesday afternoon's accident. Photo/Beth Snipes.
It looked a lot worse than it actually was, said Coweta
County Deputy Fire Chief Bill Haynes.
The accident occurred near the intersection of Ga. Highway 16 and
Marion Beavers Road just after 1 p.m. Haynes said the DOT was bushhogging
near the location, and one of the trucks veered into the other lane
to try and avoid the heavy road equipment.
But when the truck moved into the other lane, Haynes said, it collided
with the transfer truck headed in the opposite direction and actually
knocked the cab of the truck off the chassis.
The cement truck was knocked in the ditch, and traffic was snarled
for quite a while as officials from Coweta County and the Georgia State
Patrol worked the wreck.
We transported both drivers to Newnan Hospital, but miraculously
they didnt receive any serious injuries, Haynes said.
