Starrs Mill 3rd in Directors Cup, girls 1st in AAAAABy MICHAEL BOYLAN Athletes at Starrs Mill High School had a very successful 2003-2004 school year, proven not only by the teams incredible runs into the state playoffs but also by placing third in the Georgia Athletic Directors Association Dodge Champions Directors Cup in AAAAA standings behind Brookwood and Parkview respectively. Starrs Mill, which finsihed with 682.5 points, had a number of teams make the state playoffs and come close to championships. The varsity girls fast pitch softball team finished as AAAAA runners-up to Kell, while the varsity boys and girls soccer teams also finished as runners-up to Brookwood and Mcintosh respectively. State runners-up receive 80 points toward the Directors Cup standings. Starrs Mill placed first in the female division, while the boys placed third. McIntosh placed eighth overall with 452.5 points and the girls finishing fourth, thanks in part to fielding a state champion soccer team, while the boys finished 23rd. Fayette County placed 37th overall in AAAAA with the girls placing 41st and the boys placing 29th. In AAAA, Sandy Creek placed 12th with the girls finishing 11th and the boys finishing 20th. Landmark Christian School placed first in Class A with 760 points. The girls and boys each finished second overall. Our Lady of Mercy finished 24th overall with the girls placing 30th and the boys finishing 19th.
