Baseball mania grips Coweta

Today promises to be one of the biggest days in the county’s sports history.

Coweta teams have played for state titles before, but never have two of the high schools played for state titles on the same day.

Just up Fischer Road, Northgate’s Vikings host Columbus for the AAAA title. The first pitch is set for 2 p.m, with the second game shortly following the first.

If the teams split, the final game of the best-of-three series will be Saturday.

Meanwhile, the East Coweta Indians are in for a long road trip as they travel to Milton in north Fulton today to battle for the AAAAA. East Coweta completed its journey to the finals Wednesday night with a 10-0 shellacking of Parkview.

If East Coweta splits Friday, their final game will also be Saturday.

East Coweta should be well prepared for the pressure of a final series, since one of its assistant coaches is former major league pitcher Steve Bedrosian, who played in a World Series with the San Francisco Giants in 1989.
