FCHS band to hold fundraisers for trip to London

The award-winning Fayette County High School Tiger Marching Band is going to London to participate in the 2005 New Years Day parade. This is an incredible educational opportunity for these students and the FCHS Band Boosters are conducting a variety of fundraisers to help these dedicated youth take the trip of a lifetime. The cost of the trip is astronomical and through these fundraisers and community support the Boosters are endeavoring to reduce the cost of the trip for the over 150 students wishing to participate.

One of the fundraisers is a Motorcycle Fun Run in the Fayette area. The ride will be a five-card draw format and will take place June 19 starting at the Loco’s in the Towne Centre Shopping Center. The ride will take participants to a number of locations in Fayette and Coweta counties and will end at the YMCA park on Huiet Road. There will be a dinner and dancing at the park. Pre-registration for the event is required. The boosters are seeking a $25 donation for each bike and a $10 donation for each passenger. This includes the ride, a draw of the cards for each and dinner. Extra hands can be purchased at the start. The top three hands will receive prizes and a drawing for door prizes will also be awarded. Apply at www.fchsband.org or e-mail Jeff Kee at kimma@bellsouth.net or Dan Joiner at dtjoiner@bellsouth.net.

Another big fundraiser is the sale of commemorative, engraved bricks. The bricks will be used to build a sidewalk on the north side of the high school building and a small courtyard near the band room. A memorial to Greg Miller will be part of the construction. Miller was a band student who lost his life to cancer just prior to the beginning of the 2003-2004 school year. A brick is a great way to get involved, remember someone special, have your company on the Fayette County High School campus for all to see, show someone you care or tell a student you are proud of them. Visit www.fchsband.org or e-mail Dan Joiner at dtjoiner@bellsouth.net or Bob Greenway at bobg1253@aol.com for more information.

In addition to these fundraisers, there will also be car washes and numerous other events in the area, so be on the lookout for ways you can help the band go to London.
