Landmark Christian girls dominate Class A track meetBy MICHAEL BOYLAN The Landmark Christian School girls track team pounded the Class A competition at the state track meet this past weekend. The Lady War Eagles finished with 148 points and were followed by Jenkins County in second place with 43 points. Our Lady of Mercy placed 20th. Landmark Christian had state champions in the 4x400 meter relay, 3:55.280 and also had the state runner-up in the event, 4:09.530. They also had the state champions in the 4x100 meter relay, 48.580. For individuals, Sierra Hill was a state champion in the 100 meter intermediate hurdles, 14.370, the fastest time of any high school runner this spring, and the 300 meter low hurdles, 43.060, while Ciara Willis was a state champion in the 200 meter dash, 25.670 and the 400 meter dash, 56.050, Evette Holyfield was a state champion in the triple jump, 372.500 and Heather Hayes was the state champion in the pole vault, 97. Landmark also had a number of girls finsih very strong for the team and earn points. Sarah King placed second in the pole vault, 9 and second in the 300 meter low hurdles, 46.00, while Janelle Henderson placed third in the 3,200 meter, 12:57.660 and Kristina Eden placed third in the 1,600 meter, 5:41.430. Eden and Henderson placed fourth and fifth respectively in the 800 meter run, 2:28.940 and 2:31.360. Lynette Fitts and Holyfield took second and third in the 100, finishing with times of 12.460 and 12.470 respectively. Holyfield also placed second in the 200 with a time of 25.700, while Fitts took fourth in the high jump, 5. Top finishers for Our Lady of Mercy were Leandre Burton, state runner-up in the 100 meter intermediate hurdles, 15.570 and Kristina Clark, eighth in the long jump, 1510.500. |
