Lady Chiefs and Panthers make Elite Eight in soccer

Neither team has allowed a goal so far in the AAAAA state soccer playoffs and McIntosh and Starr’s Mill would prefer to keep it that way. But the road will get a little tougher now that they have made the quarterfinals.

McIntosh defeated Jonesboro Tuesday night 10-0 to advance. Jesse Lenze had a double hat trick, scoring three goals in the first half and three goals in the second half. She also added two assists to her impressive display on offense. Other goal scorers for the Lady Chiefs were Joni Vickers, Kristen McKillop and Katie Schulz, who added two goals. Members of the team who had assists were Brittany Schneider, Arlan Whittle, Kelsey Quinn, Emily Myers and Vickers.

Starr’s Mill defeated Eagle’s Landing 6-0 on the road. The Lady Panthers got two goals from Shelley Wegryzyn, and one goal a piece from Tannah Castro, Katie Jacobsen, Beth Meadors and Kelley O’Hara.

Starr’s Mill, ranked fourth in AAAAA, will host Parkview tomorrow at 7 p.m. Parkview is ranked number one in AAAAA. They are 16-0-4 and have outscored their opponents 69-11. Parkview advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating third ranked Pope Tuesday, 3-2. McIntosh, ranked second in AAAAA, will host Chattahoochee tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. Chattahoochee is ranked 10th and has an overall record of 12-6-1. They have won five in a row and have outscored their opponents 58-18. To advance to the quarterfinals, Chattahoochee defeated North Gwinnett, 2-1.

Three teams from Fayette County will play tonight in the boys AAAAA quarterfinals. Starr’s Mill, ranked third, will play at top-ranked Parkview at 7:30 p.m, while Fayette County will host Brookwood and McIntosh will host Kennesaw Mountain. Both local games will take place at 7:30 p.m.
