Newnan hosts playoff game

The Newnan Lady Cougars will host the first-ever state playoff soccer game played in Drake Stadium tomorrow at 3 p.m. For the third consecutive year, Newnan will meet Brookwood in the quarterfinals of the AAAAA state playoffs.

Brookwood defeated Newnan 3-0 in 2002 and 4-0 in 2003 to end the Lady Cougars' seasons. Newnan beat Brookwood during the regular season this year 2-1 with freshmen Mimi Edge and Cortney Charlesworth scoring the goals while the Lady Broncos became the first team of the year to score on Newnan.

All three previous matches, both playoff games and this season's match, were held at Brookwood High in Snellville. Newnan is currently 15-2-2 entering the playoffs as the #3 Seed from Region 4-AAAAA and ranked #6 in the AJC AAAAA Girl's soccer poll. Brookwood enters the match as the co-defending AAAAA state champion (having tied Parkview in the 2003 final 1-1) with a record of 13-2-5 as the #3 Seed from Region 8-AAAAA and ranked #7 in the AJC poll.
