Scouts visit YorktownBoy Scout Troop 309, Peachtree City,Êrecently relived a part of history when they participated in the camping program aboard the World War II aircraft carrier USS Yorktown at Patriots Point in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina. The Scouts became shipmates with other Scout troops as they toured the Yorktown, the World War II submarine USS Clamagore, World War II destroyer USS Laffey, and World War II Coast Guard Cutter Ingham. Morning and evening meals were prepared and served to the Scouts in the Chiefs Mess aboard the Yorktown for the full effect of having lived aboard the famous man-of-war. Troop 309 also toured Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor where the War Between the States began, visited Charleston AFB and the inside ofÊa C-17 Globemaster aircraft and viewed the CSS Hunley, a sunken Confederate submarine being studied at the Charleston Navy Yard. Troop 309 is sponsored by the American Legion Post 105 Fayette County. The Scoutmaster is Chip Beard. |
