Peachtree City WASA to accept septageBy MICHAEL BOYLAN Recently, a septage reception facility was constructed by the Peachtree City Water and Sewerage Authority and soon they will be accepting septage for treatment. Septage is the waste that is pumped out of septic tanks and until now the septage from Peachtree City and the rest of the county has been taken to Clayton County. Bishop Thiem Septic Tank, Inc., which takes approximately 80-90 percent of the countys septage, went over the procedures and rates with Larry Turner, General manager of WASA. The rate in Clayton County was 10 cents a gallon and Peachtree City will charge six cents a gallon. To establish this rate, Turner looked at rates throughout the state and saw a range of rates from as low as one cent a gallon to 29 cents. The companies dumping septage will also pay a $25 capital recovery fee, which will rebate to Fayette County, which paid $148,500 of the capital cost for the facility, and a $25 administrative fee. Peachtree City WASA treats two million gallons of waste a day and the two trucks that will be bringing septage for treatment will be bringing an estimated 6,000 gallons a day. This does not effect the rates of any Peachtree City Water and Sewerage customers. WASA plans on beginning to accept septage within two weeks. |
