Gardens open to publicThe private gardens of featured Coweta County Master Gardeners will be open to the public on the Garden Gate Tour May 22 from 9 am until 2:00 pm. The gardens are filled with nooks and crannies, specialty plants, garden accents, and water features beautifully placed and carefully tended. Each garden has a unique personality. Five gardens are on the tour including the charming gardens of Something Special in the Greenville Street-LaGrange Street historic district of Newnan. Nestled beneath large oak trees, the garden rooms of this Victorian home are filled with terraces, tucked away sitting spaces, fountains and accents surrounded by lush plantings. Gage Glen is a woodlanders paradise attracting birds and wildlife. The gardens of Gage Glen welcomes many shade loving native and flowering plants which bloom beautifully under the canopy of nearby trees. The Stewart Garden also evokes an enchanted woodland setting. Michelle Stewarts garden was developed under the creative influence of her Master Gardener mother, Jo Ann Wright. Wright has developed many gardens, one of which was featured in The Better Homes and Gardens Garden Shed magazine. For those who are plant connoisseurs, the Echols Garden features a Japanese Maple nursery and extensive flowerbeds. Gardeners who are blessed with ample summer sun will take home many great ideas from the sunny setting of the Giles Garden. Linda Giles has conquered the summer heat gardening with plants that like it hot, hot, hot. Master Gardeners will be available the day of the tour to identify plants and answer gardening questions. Maps to the gardens will be provided for self-guided tours. Advanced sales are $12 per ticket for five gardens or $3 per garden the day of the tour. Tickets are available in Newnan at the Coweta County Extension Service, 21 East Washington Street, Country Gardens Farm and Nursery, 3728 Lower Fayetteville Road, and Andys Nursery, 915 Hwy 16, E Newnan.
