Gun locks offered by Fayetteville police

Free firearms safety kits are available at the Fayetteville Police Department through the Project Childsafe program.

The safety kits include a cable-style gun lock that fits most types of handguns, rifles and shotguns. It also includes gun safety information.

The kits will be available at the police department Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Project Childsafe is a program of the National Shooting Sports Foundation that is funded by a U.S. Department of Justice Grant. Additional funding comes from the firearms industry.

The program will distribute millions of gunlocks nationwide.

The goal of the program is to prevent a child or any unauthorized person from accessing the firearm, officials said.
