Five people — including four children — were injured late Saturday afternoon in a motor vehicle crash on Ga. Highway 85 north near Roberts Road that tied up traffic for two hours while medics attended to the victims.

None of the injuries was life-threatening, but some victims were taken to the hospital by medical helicopter as a precaution, police said.

The wreck occurred after 5 p.m. when a 1992 Toyota Corolla driven northbound by Todd Kemble McGhee, 35, of Riverdale, crossed the median of Ga. Highway 85 North. His vehicle then struck a 1994 VW Jetta going south in the southbound lanes driven by Manohar Elagandula, 32, of College Park, according to a preliminary accident report filed by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department.

Three of four children in McGhee’s car and McGhee himself were taken to area hospitals, the report stated.

Moments before McGhee’s vehicle travelled across the median, he had attempted to change lanes, police said. Another vehicle was in that lane, and that motorist honked to alert McGhee not to change lanes, police said.

McGhee then swerved back to the left, causing him to lose control of his vehicle, the report said. He is being charged with failure to maintain lane, police said.
