Local author offers workshop

Fairburn resident Meta Commerse will present a workshop entitled “The Healing Power of Story” April 3 from 1-3 p.m. at the Fairburn Hobgood Library. It is free and open to the public.

Commerse is author of three books: “Landscapes of

Abuse: Transforming Feminine Spirit from Powerlessness to Purpose, Generational Effects and Unfinished Business;” “Bacon’s Rebellion from an Afrikan

Perspective;” and her latest, “Study War No More: A Black Girl’s Peace Medicine.” She teaches the artful power of story and personal narrative to all ages. A life coach and substitute teacher in Fulton County, Commerse earned a master of arts degree in African American studies and will begin her doctoral work in

humanities this fall.

An artist who believes that the spoken, written, and portrayed word can harmonize, unify and revolutionize our lives, Commerse was born and raised in Chicago. Reared in the bosom of the black arts, civil rights, and peace movements of the 1960s in a family of artists, Commerse began writing poetry at age 9, emulating her great grandmother. Dedicating

her life to peace and healing, she has written two plays and conducts workshops on health, wellness and “story medicine.”
