Lord of the Rings prequel lands in Newnan By LINDSAY BIANCHI Lord of the Rings prequel comes to Newnan J.R.R. Tolkeins The Lord of the Rings has been filling up movie screens for three years. Now the Newnan Theatre Company is filling their stage with the classic prequel, The Hobbit, as part of their Popcorn Theatre series. Adapted by Patricia Gray from the book and directed by Tonya Jefferson, The Hobbit is the story of Bilbo Baggins and his search for treasure outside the quiet confines of Hobbiton. All the magic and mystery of Mirkwood Forest and beyond awaits fantasy fans both young and old. A group of more than 30 actors will portray everthing from elves to dwarves to orcs and hobbits. Bilbos character is being shared by two young actors, Grant Wagstaff and Benjamin Martin who will takes turns every other evening as the most conservative of all hobbits. The role of Gandalf is being portrayed by Mark Davies. Gollum, the most sought after role in the play, is being portrayed by Jeff Allen. In addition to directing, Patricia Gray is also overseeing the costume designs, something she did for last seasons Alice in Wonderland with great results. Combining wooden weaponry created by her husband to look like the real thing, Gray and her fellow earthfolk are recreating the many details that will transport the audience to Middle Earth. The Hobbit starts Friday at 8 p.m. and runs for three consecutive weekends with Saturday and Sunday shows at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students and senior citizens.
