Local track teams compete in Atlanta Four county high schools competed in the Coaches Invitational track meet in Atlanta last weekend, with several local competitors registering top finishes. In girls action, Mellany Stanislaus of Sandy Creek won the triple jump, while Elizabeth Hale of McIntosh came in fourth in the high jump and Simone Heath of Fayette County placed sixth in the discus throw. The Starrs Mill Lady Panthers finished fourth in the 4x800-meter relay and sixth in the 4x400-meter relay. For the boys, Seth Yetter of McIntosh came in third in the high jump and Will Judson of Sandy Creek was fourth in the 100-meter dash. The Starrs Mill Panthers came in sixth in the 4x800-meter relay. Starrs Mill hosted Fayette County and Mount Zion in a meet last Wednesday, and the Panthers won the boys and girls competitions. The Panthers scored 67.66 points, followed by Mount Zion (52) and Fayette County (50.33), while the Lady Panthers scored 67 points to also outpace Mount Zion (63) and Fayette County (40). Individual winners for Fayette County were Cammy Andrews (girls high jump and 400-meter dash), Simone Heath (girls discus throw), and Quinta Starr (boys long jump). Individual girls winners for Starrs Mill were Kursten Carr (800-meter run), Angela Garza (shot put), Jeannine Guertin (pole vault), Kristin Horton (1600-meter and 3200-meter runs), Kristin Olson (300-meter hurdles), and Lindsey Wilckens (100-meter hurdles). Individual boys winners for Starrs Mill were Greg Davis (discus throw), Stephen Fleming (300-meter hurdles), Michael Kursteiner (high jump), Caleb Martin (pole vault), Bradley Morris (1600-meter and 3200-meter runs), Antonio Scott (100-meter dash), and Daniel Shankle (800-meter run).
