Fayette club wins state title The Fayette County Thrashers youth wrestling club continues to build its tradition by placing first as a team in the USA Wrestling state tournament. The Thrashers tied with the McEachern Indians at 91 points each. Individual state champions included Jacob Williamson, Kenny Kellerman, James Mills, Patrick Blankenbeker and Jason Allen. Second-place finishes went to Austin Penland, Chase Penland and Brandon Ferguson. Jon Davenport placed third, while Tim Waters, Greg Barrera, Doug Taylor, Tommy Carney and Chris Sudduth came in fourth. This is the first state title for the Thrashers club, which is coached by Frank Bennett and Scott Williamson. Its mission is to continue to produce proven, experienced wrestlers for Fayette County schools. The club is open to all Fayette County area youths ages 6-14 and will start up again in the fall.
