Dalrymple named Coach of the Year Many things can change for a person in a month. Last May, Matt Dalrymple was a student at LaGrange College and a part-time physical education teacher and coach at LaGrange Academy. One month later, after receiving his degree, he was named the head boys basketball coach at LaGrange Academy, becoming one of the youngest head coaches in Georgia. Dalrymple also moved into the classroom as a sixth-grade history teacher and began working in the admissions office at the private school, a member of Region 4-AA of the Georgia Independent Schools Association. He began an extensive summer workout with the team last June and competed in a series of scrimmages against public and private schools in the area during the summer. That work, and Dalrymples energetic style, paid off during the 2003-04 season. After not producing a winning season in several years, the boys team compiled a 24-6 record, going 12-1 in region play. In the state tournament, the Warriors advanced to the final eight before being eliminated by the eventual state champion, Brentwood Academy. Because of his efforts and those of his team, Dalrymple was named Region 4-AA Coach of the Year. He is a 1998 graduate of Fayette County High School, where he played basketball four years. He was team co-captain and second in scoring his senior season. He is the son of Trigg and Edith Dalrymple. Back to the Top of the PageBack to the Sports Home Page
